Where the numbers come from
Every rank on this page is how many people opened that article on English Wikipedia over the twelve months to July 2026. That data is published by the Wikimedia Foundation and released into the public domain under CC0. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or invented.
This measures what people look up, which is not the same as what people know. Nobody searches for a crow, because everybody already knows what a crow is. The shoebill outranks the sparrow because it looks like a dinosaur wearing a shoe, and the cane corso outranks the beagle because it looks like it could open a door. That gap is the game.
Attention is not importance. A dodo is not more real than a wren, and a shiba inu is not more real than a mutt. They are just looked at more.
